Sergey
Kubasov The
Museum of the Academy of Art. 17, University Embankment. St.
Petersburg, Russia.
Sergey Kubasov was considered a national artist of Russia and was the professor of Academy of Arts. Unfortunately this exhibition coincided with the anniversary of his death. The
display of his art is
surprising -
considering the wide range of creative interests the excellent sculptor
is showing: from lyrical
portraits,
chamber compositions, memorial sculptures up to his famous
monumental
plastics. Kubasov is a well
known St. Petersburg sculptor who worked together with the equally
well-known
artist Anikuschin about
creating monumental - heroic
projects. One of the most significant work of this
exhibition became
a monument "Heroic defenders of Leningrad" which is shown in the show.
In fact, this exhibition
is dated also to the 60-th anniversary of reversal of blockade. Most
of the time the
sculptor worked in
historical genre. His heroes are soldiers of great patriotic war
themes ("Partisan Glory ", Luga,
1975), builders of the city Komsomolsk
- on -Amur ("To First builders of Komsomolsk-
on–Amur ", the Far East, 1932), great writers
and
figures of the Soviet and Russian culture: Ostrovsky (Sochi, 1972),
Dzerzginsky
(St. Petersburg, 1982), Dostoevsky and Stanislavsky (both in China,
before the
Shanghai university). His projects of the monuments of "Alexander Nevsky" and "The
Monument of the October revolution " in St.
Petersburg were not realized at that time. But the projects are now
presented at the
exhibition. The sculptures of animals were just as important go Kubasov than his other themes. The sculptural group "Wind" attracts our attention by his boldness of a plan and by internal confidence.
His students Andrey Novikov and Vyacheslav Kovalenko are now continuing the sculptural school of their famous teacher in the honorable workshop of Kubasov at the Academy of Arts. |
