Biography of Alexander Pushnin (1921-1991) Russian Artist  
Alexander Tikhonovich Pushnin
(March 28, 1921 - September 5,1991)


 
 

Alexander Pushnin was born in Marshansk, Russia. He attended his first art school in 1934 at age 13. In 1940 he enrolled at The Fine Arts Academy of St. Petersburg, Russia where he graduated in 1950. He worked in the studio of Professors Frentz and Gerasimov and received his diploma at the "Lenin University" in Kazan (graduating class of 1950-1952?) with a painting entitled "Arrest of the temporary government". He taught at the Fine Arts Academy of St. Petersburg from 1955-1988. 

In 1986, he taught drawing and sculpture as a professor in the architecture department. He became a member of the Union of Artists in 1950. Paintings of Pushnin are kept in: The Museum of the Academy of Art, State Russian Museum, Ministry of Culture, Museum of the History of the City of St. Petersburg, Petrosavodsk Art Gallery, Tomsk Museum of Russian Art, Saratov Art Gallery, Museum of the Revolution in Moscow and Grozny Art Gallery.
